The best way to spread Christmas cheer is singing loud for all to hear.

Okay, so hands down...the best X-Mas movie of all time is Elf.
I ABSOLUTELY love this movie. Every part of it. It makes me stupid happy.

My friend from school and I have been yell singing it in the parking lot the past few days.

Awesome, I know.

The movie has the best quotes ever in it too...
Buddy -- "We elves try to stick to the four main food groups: candy, candy canes, candy corns and syrup."
Buddy -- "You stink. You smell like beef and cheese! You don't smell like Santa. "
Buddy --  "It's just nice to meet another human that shares my affinity for elf culture."
Buddy --  "First we'll make snow angels for a two hours, then we'll go ice skating, then we'll eat a whole roll of Tollhouse Cookiedough as fast as we can, and then we'll snuggle.

Almost a train wreck...Gingerbread Style.

The spawn and I spent a good amount of time on Saturday creating a Gingerbread Town for X-Mas.
The girl spawn had the tall house, the boy spawn had the short big house, and I had the train.

That train.../grumble.
The Engine/Cab/Front of the train, [I am really not sure which of those is correct] existed solely to piss me off. I glued it together with the frosting like I was supposed to and let it dry for a bit. I stacked them on top of each other figuring the pressure would help, which on the cars seemed to work out perfectly. The Engine/Cab/Front fell apart repeatedly. I grumbled a lot, but we had fun making them. Here are the pics.

The Boy Spawn's House.

The Girl Spawn's House (she got bored after doing such ornate work on the top)

And my train. [I won't mind if it magically comes to life and chugga chugga choo choo's right off the edge into a giant gingerbread mess, not one bit.]

Title Goes Here

I haven't posted in a month?

There is entirely too much that has me distracted as hell which means I don't blog. I went through about a week or two of not even checking the list of blogs I try to read daily on Bloglovin'. Fail.

School is going well. I have a new instructor. Cakes and Cake Assembly. I have to create a torte for a final grade in the class. Write a huge report on it -- the whys, the hows, the whats. Then I have to bake it. Oh, I also have to maintain a notebook that is due at the end of class, which is a brilliant idea in my opinion. I rather wish we had been doing it the whole time. The notebook has to contain all of our recipes we make in class, syllabus, powerpoints, notes we take, conversions, etc. It will be awesome to look back on it for reference when I want to bake something.

I bought The Flavor Bible. This book....geesh. It is pretty amazing for putting combining flavors that will taste well together. I bought it for the aforementioned torte I have to create and just figured it was a good investment.

I am also reading a book called My Life From Scratch by Gesine Bullock-Prado. It was formerly published under the title "Confections of a Closet Master Baker" <----LAWL! That is just pure genius. Unsure as to why she changed the title, but then I haven't really investigated any either. I love how she writes, how she includes a detailed recipe at the end of each chapter, and how she just lays it out there. She has her own blog as well -- G Bakes - Confections of a (Closet) Master Baker.

Number one sign you haven't been keeping up with things in the blogosphere?
294 posts unread on Bloglovin'.
Who is on the fail train? Me. That's who.

I have been severely slacking lately, what with school, the halloween party, general laziness, trying to decide what to do about a portfolio/externship, and WoW.

The Halloween party was a success.
Everyone had on killer costumes, everyone drank til their hearts content, and everyone had a lot of fun (at least, that is what they tell me. haha) I was Little Red Riding Hood and Matt was the Big Bad Wolf as Grandmother.  Here are a few pictures from the party.

The Dining Room

A Pumpkin barfing up guacamole (found the idea on Pinterest)

The Kitchen. (those coolers were by far my best creation. Matt had some old coolers in the storage and I spray painted the tops and smeared them, and then used a latex-free glove and sprayed my hand red and smeared it on them)

Mummy Cheeseball (another idea from pinterest)

Zombie Body Parts Tutorial.

I wanted severed zombie parts for the graveyard I put in front of the house...Because let's face it...
Zombies are effin' badass. I have a Halloween Party budget [That I might of blown a little.....okay...maybe more than a little. /fail.] so I couldn't go buy the ones that are pre-made. I found a bunch of severed body parts for the kitchen for my Halloween Party because it is going to be the bloody torture room. I got them from dollar tree for 1.00 each and the spray paint was .98 cents each from Wal-Mart. (maybe .97 cents.) Anyways...for 4 bucks I made some freakin' awesome zombie hands/feet. I had bought the spray paint originally to redo a Halloween Rug. If I don't fail at that..I will post it later as well.

The hand/foot from Dollar Tree + Cheap Spray Paint from Wal-Mart. I tried both ways of spray painting it to make grey. Black first, with white misted on top. Then white with black misted on top. I like the white first more than the black first. /shrug.

White as first layer, black as top layer.

White as first layer, black as top layer.

Black as first layer, white as top layer.

Yay for Halloween-ness.

I have been all consumed with a lot of shit lately and failing to blog.
I want to. I just don't do it. I am sort of all consumed with Spawn, School, WoW, Party Ideas....and just trying to find motivation to do things. I fail at it...big time.

Halloween is coming up. wo0t. Which means 3 things...
1 -- The Girl Spawn turns 11. Her, her bff, and I are going to a Haunted House, then to get icecream and then they are going to stay up all night watching movies and eating junk food. She also has a list of about a million One Direction things she wants. [So, am I srsly getting punished or something here? One Direction? Really? Siiggggghhhhh. Boy Bands. /vomit.]

2 -- Our first Halloween Party. Adults Only the weekend before Halloween. I can't wait. Matt is going to be The Big Bad Wolf as Grandmother. I got him a extremely hideous pink/purple/white nightgown with pink fuzzy slippers. And my friend Nea  sewed him a cap and me an apron. I am going to be Little Red Riding Hood! So effin' stoked. I will post the invites that I made for the party later. I need to take a picture. They rather rocked. I am hoping this turns into Matt and I's Annual thing. I fucking love Halloween.

3 -- Trick Or Treating for the Spawn. The girl is going to be a Dark Dolly with purple pigtails to match her black and purple dress. It is a pretty cute costume. She told me that this is the last year she can T.o.T...because she will be  in middle school next year, and if she T.o.T's, she will be shunned. lawl. The Boy Spawn is going to be a Ninja haha...for like the 3rd time! What can I say, kid loves being a Ninja!

A few links you should check out...

I found this blog while looking on Pinterest for ideas for Halloween parties. It is all about cheap things to make/buy/do for many times of parties.

Here is another fun site I found on Pinterest. One of my friends linked it. It's a tutorial on making your own duct tape boots to match a costume!

Mists of Pandaria was released. wo0t.
It is pretty fucking sweet. Pet Battles are super fun.

I aced my 3rd class. Go me. I am super going to miss my Chef. He was pretty badass.

Halloween Party Plans are in motion. I am finishing the invites tomorrow.

That is about all I have for now. Time to sell my soul to the WoW gods.

Today,  I have to make Genoise [sponge cake] that is at least 2 inches tall in class. [Technically tomorrow I guess, since I have to do it when I wake up. But, whatevs.]

This doesn't sound like a hard task, right?

But Monday, I blew it.  Like, the cake I made tasted like goat balls. AND it was flat. AND the wrong texture. wtfx? I've went over and over in my head what I did and cannot think of anything that was incorrect. Hopefully....HOPEFULLY...I don't blow it again today. I really cannot afford to take a 50 point dick punch. Especially since I can't seem to get above a damn 80 on the written tests. SIGH.  After I get the Genoise Practical out of the way, I get to pipe 750 rosettes, shells, and interlocking rosettes. FUN FUN!

Yesterday night was the new season of Bones premiere. EPIC.
Tonight was Sons of Anarchy...God I effin' love this show.
Tomorrow is Restaurant Impossible. wo0t. Chef Robert = awesome.

This is Halloween!

I have been a lazy blogger. For the past few weeks. I fail.
I am still trying to adjust to waking up at 7am to get the Spawn off to school and then go to school myself. I would like to point out, I am also failing at that ahah. I have only managed lateness once, but I am super rushed all the time (to the point of a speeding ticket. Oops. It was bound to happen though.)

But yeah..whatev.

So Matt and I are throwing a Halloween Party. I want it to be an annual thing. I fucking love Halloween.
Honestly, I love FALL up until NEW YEARS. Valentine's Day can eat it.

I have been searching the interwebs for Halloween Party ideas.  And since I set a strict $200 budget...yeah. I have to make some shit.

Here are the ones I've found via Pinterest...
1.) Sheets on furniture to make for a neglected looking room. Dude, Martha Stewart rocks the Halloween Decor/Party Ideas. No joke.

2.) This saying, but as a rug for the front door.

3.) There's a hand in the punch!

4.)  Costume Trophies!! This site is actually FULL of great Halloween Decoration ideas.

5.) Rats all over the place!!

I've also thought up a few other ideas like Jars of random gross things sitting around, REDRUM on the bathroom mirror, and no Halloween Party can be complete without TONS of spiderwebs everywhere.

Garbage Pail Kids

Anyone remember those?
They were fucking cool. Badass gross trading cards. Hell yes.
The movie is on Netflix. ahah I remember watching it when I was younger. And I know it is going to be  terrible watching it as an adult, but it is so going to happen. So.Incredibly.Terrible.  I started watching it the other day and there were too many screeching spawn running rampant in the house.

How's this for a tattoo? It is just too bad that she has to be a ValErie, instead of a ValArie.

Nerdin' it up -- World of Warcraft Style.

These are just completely effin' badass.
And they now belong to Matt and I for the living room.

Karazhan is my absolute favorite raid from WoW. The whole feel of it was just fun. The castle was freakin' cool, the mobs were ghosts and skeletons and demons. IT ROCKED!

A little lore from WoWWiki --
Karazhan [54, 78] (a.k.a. Medivh's Tower, Ivory Tower of Karazhan, or Ivory Spire of Karazhan)LoC 44 is an abandoned citadel (or castle)LG 195, 250 located on a nexus of ley lines in southern Deadwind Pass. The tower is best known for its last known occupant — Medivh, the last Guardian of Tirisfal. After Medivh was killed by Khadgar, Lothar, and Garona, the tower sealed itself off from the rest of the world. But recently, Karazhan has reawakened — an evil presence has taken the tower as its own, its halls crawling with spirits and demons... and Medivh's presence is still alive and well, even decades after his death.

The Opera Event was composed of one of three encounters, hense 3 movie posters.

Finished the boy spawn's room!

FINALLY got the boy spawn's bedroom finished. You can't tell in the bedspread but the colors totally match. It is pretty bad ass. He likes it too. Check this shit out...

Bed, obviously.

TV for the PS3. He still had it with him when I took the pics.

Another angle.

And yet another one.

Traveling Through Texas

Matt told me when we first started talking that Austin was the place for my weird kind so I've wanted to visit it since I moved here. We decided to go the weekend before the spawn came home.

It is so fucking bad ass. Everyone just looked happy.

We had two plans really...EAT like a motha' fucker and I wanted to hit up vintage shops because there's a ton there. I wanted to eat at places I've never been, try new things.

First stop...
Hoover's Cooking -- Jerk Chicken, Mashed Potatoes, and Mustard Greens. The potatoes were eh and the mustard greens were eh...but that might of been because they weren't collard greens which I really wanted. OMG the chicken was TASSTTTYY! We had pie as well. Coconut Cream for teh Matt and Pecan for me, it was alright.

We then headed off to check out the vintage shops...There were a fuck ton. They had a lot of cool things but nothing I really wanted.

Okay bro, this one....WAS FUCKING SCARY. Like...You couldn't touch anything without fear of it toppling on your face and someone discovering your dead rotting body months later when they decided they really wanted that Spawn 3 action figure.

Another shot of Hoarderstown USA.

The front of the shop which should have been a sign of the inside. Although, I am sure there is a TON of HELLA cool shit up in there. It's unfortunate that you can't look around and find some killer stuff.

Austin Skyline.

More Scenery. It was really pretty there. My pics in no way do it justice. I fail.

We met with a friend for dinner and he chose Posados Cafe. The food was...alright. The waitress was a disaster with her belly showing because her shirt was unbuttoned on the bottom. She walked like Lafayette from True shit.

The Next day we were hit up Casino el Camino because Guy Fieri said so!!

ZOMG! The burger was FUCKING DELICIOUS. Like, the taste of it was just amazing. I wish I had gotten the blue cheese one with the crazy hot sauce but we were headed down to Corpus Christi which is a 4 hour drive and I didn't want to risk heartburn kicking my ass. I got a California Style I think it was called. Bean Sprouts, avocado...MMMM.

I wanted cupcakes. ahah So we hit up Hey Cupcake!. I took a really cool picture of the cupcake trailer thing, but my phone is a bastard and ate it. Sigh.

Honestly? Not that impressed, maybe we got the wrong kind. /shrug. The two in the middle were vegan.

We headed down to Corpus Christi, more specifically North Padre Island to spend a day with Matt's Mom. It was the first time I met her. Dude, you could TASTE the salt in the air from the was cool. I freakin' love the water. Matt and I went and walked around for an hour one night which was fun even though it was all completely-I-like-long-walks-on-the-beach-ish. <3

Random shot of the beach.

And again.

In conclusion...haha AUSTIN ROCKS FUCKING SOCKS!

Update of sorts.

Spent the weekend in Austin.
It was awesome.
Came home.
It wasn't awesome.
Back to school today.
It was awesome.
My spawn come home Wednesday.
It will be awesome.

Yeah...that is all I have. I will add pictures and shit later. Time to go read two chapters on baking and finish Kitchen Confidential. Or sleep. Whichever happens to happen first.

Mist of Pandaria released the trailer for the game!
What a completely AWESOME trailer. Now I can't wait to play it. I wasn't all that excited over it...
Big fucking pandas? Wearing armor? Slaying beasts? Ehhhh..Okay, maybe it sounds cool.

I have been avoiding the beta because I want to be surprised but Matt keeps playing it and I can't help but look over. And it really does look fun. I can't wait for a new quest chain. And...okay, maybe big hairy pandas sound like fun. The female Pandaren are pretty adorbz.

School Stuff

My first two classes are coming to an end. This makes me sad. I really like my instructor and I probably won't have him again. Blah.

The past few days in Foundations 1, we have had to do group recipes. And we didn't get to pick our groups ahah. There is already a huge divide in our class, mostly because of age I think. [A lot of the girls and the one boy in our class are around 18 and fresh out of high school.] I think our instructor sees this and is trying to get us used to working with everyone since we are going to be with the same people for a year, not just the little cliques that have been formed. /shrug. Anyways, rambling.

Wednesday we made fruit salad with vinaigarette.
The vinaigarette was GROSS. SO INCREDIBLY GROSS. Maybe I did something wrong ahah.
But, I plated it pretty cute. In retrospect, I wouldn't have used 5 balls, but 3. And for the love of....PAPAYA is effin' disgusting. So was the pineapple. And those cuts bother me because they aren't perfect but eh...Whaddyagunnado?

Today we made Gazpacho.
I hadn't ever had it before and I went into it thinking I would hate it. Cold Soup? BLECH!
But...ours turned out really tasty. I will post the recipe later, because I really liked it.
ANDDDDDD...I plated it SUPER AWESOME. It was definitely the nicest plated gazpacho. [Conceited much? Maybe.]

Take a look. It's in a book.

Books are awesome.
If you don't think so, we can't be friends. ;]

I have a GINORMOUS collection of books to read and for some reason, I keep adding to the pile. I buy most of them from Half Price Books so I don't feel bad about hoarding it up literary style. I always check the clearance section for books...quite a few of that stack came from Half Price Books clearance for 2 bucks!

I am currently reading The Complete Idiot's Guide to Success as a Chef by Leslie Bilderback
I really enjoy it honestly. I got it because it had a huge list of The Classical Brigade System by Escoffier all in one place that was easy to understand. And then once I started reading it, I ended up loving the author's honesty.

Other books in my stack to read are...
The Nasty Bits by Anthony Bourdain
Under the Table by Katherine Darling
Kitchen Confidential by Anthony Bourdain
Julie & Julia by Julie Powell
My Life in France by Julia Child
The Pastry Chef's Companion by Glenn and Laura Rinsky
The Zombie Survival Guide by Max Brooks [Not cooking! what?!]
The Making of a Chef by Michael Ruhlman
Becoming a Chef by Andrew Dornenburg and Karen Page

Here is another I want to check out..
The Devil in the Kitchen: Sex, Pain, Madness, and the Making of a Great Chef by Marco Pierre White

Razer Lycosa -- I love you.

When it comes to my keyboard [Razer Lycosa] and mouse [Logitech Mx518]...

I am super picky.
Whatever word you choose to describe completely anal and whiny.

I started using a Razer Lycosa a while ago and it is the ONLY keyboard I can use happily. I find flaws in every other keyboard I try -- too loud, too clacky, too soft, too hard. I am kind of like Goldilocks noming on porridge and snoozing in bear beds. My BFF Jess got one a long ass time ago and I was a bit jelly. Unfortunately, I was using the Ideazon Burning Crusade Limited Edition Zboard  at the time [which was super clacky!! but I liked it because it was from my favorite expansion in World of Warcraft.] so I couldn't get a new one. I got my first Lycosa from for like 27.99. So yeah, the Lycosa is definitely not the latest or the best in gaming keyboards, but it is comfortable and perfect. I don't even use gaming features on a keyboard [the Zboard did have some cool ones on the number pad that I got used to.] The keys are so smooth, like velvet. The LED lighted keys are awesome. And it isn't utterly LOUD when you press a button. Anyways, after a few spillage incidents the shift key decided not to work a month or so back. [It quite very well could of been from over usage of the shift key in Diablo 3, but I confess nothing.] I was trying to unstick it, and went HULK SMASH on it or something and snapped the damn button in two. Long story short, I needed a new one so Matt ordered me one and I am once again a happy girl.

Mmmm. Razer Lycosa. [Note my checks (chef pants) at the bottom of the pic. Man I gotta stop living in these things!!]

Look how velvety the keys look!

One room down...

4 more to go! [boy spawn's room is ALMOST done, bathroom still has wallpaper we are working on removing, and the kitchen -- ergh ahah.]

Here is the girl spawn's room. She LOVES purple. Like, completely loves it and wanted her room purple. It is so super girly in there ahah. Zomg.

I kind of wish that flower was a different color. Teal would be awesome!

She put those paint chips on her mirror ahah. I thought it was pretty clever.

Her closet. [So glad the door is closed!]

A vinyl decal we got her from MushuDesigns on Etsy.

And just another shot of the darker purple.
