Nerdin' it up -- World of Warcraft Style.

These are just completely effin' badass.
And they now belong to Matt and I for the living room.
wo0t.

Karazhan is my absolute favorite raid from WoW. The whole feel of it was just fun. The castle was freakin' cool, the mobs were ghosts and skeletons and demons. IT ROCKED!

A little lore from WoWWiki --
Karazhan [54, 78] (a.k.a. Medivh's Tower, Ivory Tower of Karazhan, or Ivory Spire of Karazhan)LoC 44 is an abandoned citadel (or castle)LG 195, 250 located on a nexus of ley lines in southern Deadwind Pass. The tower is best known for its last known occupant — Medivh, the last Guardian of Tirisfal. After Medivh was killed by Khadgar, Lothar, and Garona, the tower sealed itself off from the rest of the world. But recently, Karazhan has reawakened — an evil presence has taken the tower as its own, its halls crawling with spirits and demons... and Medivh's presence is still alive and well, even decades after his death.

The Opera Event was composed of one of three encounters, hense 3 movie posters.

Finished the boy spawn's room!

FINALLY got the boy spawn's bedroom finished. You can't tell in the bedspread but the colors totally match. It is pretty bad ass. He likes it too. Check this shit out...

Bed, obviously.

TV for the PS3. He still had it with him when I took the pics.

Another angle.

And yet another one.

Traveling Through Texas

FINALLY GOT TO GO TO AUSTIN!
Matt told me when we first started talking that Austin was the place for my weird kind so I've wanted to visit it since I moved here. We decided to go the weekend before the spawn came home.

It is so fucking bad ass. Everyone just looked happy.

We had two plans really...EAT like a motha' fucker and I wanted to hit up vintage shops because there's a ton there. I wanted to eat at places I've never been, try new things.

First stop...
Hoover's Cooking -- Jerk Chicken, Mashed Potatoes, and Mustard Greens. The potatoes were eh and the mustard greens were eh...but that might of been because they weren't collard greens which I really wanted. OMG the chicken was TASSTTTYY! We had pie as well. Coconut Cream for teh Matt and Pecan for me, it was alright.

We then headed off to check out the vintage shops...There were a fuck ton. They had a lot of cool things but nothing I really wanted.

Okay bro, this one....WAS FUCKING SCARY. Like...You couldn't touch anything without fear of it toppling on your face and someone discovering your dead rotting body months later when they decided they really wanted that Spawn 3 action figure.

Another shot of Hoarderstown USA.

The front of the shop which should have been a sign of the inside. Although, I am sure there is a TON of HELLA cool shit up in there. It's unfortunate that you can't look around and find some killer stuff.

Austin Skyline.

Scenery.

More Scenery. It was really pretty there. My pics in no way do it justice. I fail.

We met with a friend for dinner and he chose Posados Cafe. The food was...alright. The waitress was a disaster with her belly showing because her shirt was unbuttoned on the bottom. She walked like Lafayette from True Blood...no shit.

The Next day we were hit up Casino el Camino because Guy Fieri said so!!

ZOMG! The burger was FUCKING DELICIOUS. Like, the taste of it was just amazing. I wish I had gotten the blue cheese one with the crazy hot sauce but we were headed down to Corpus Christi which is a 4 hour drive and I didn't want to risk heartburn kicking my ass. I got a California Style I think it was called. Bean Sprouts, avocado...MMMM.

I wanted cupcakes. ahah So we hit up Hey Cupcake!. I took a really cool picture of the cupcake trailer thing, but my phone is a bastard and ate it. Sigh.

Honestly? Not that impressed, maybe we got the wrong kind. /shrug. The two in the middle were vegan.

We headed down to Corpus Christi, more specifically North Padre Island to spend a day with Matt's Mom. It was the first time I met her. Dude, you could TASTE the salt in the air from the Gulf...it was cool. I freakin' love the water. Matt and I went and walked around for an hour one night which was fun even though it was all completely-I-like-long-walks-on-the-beach-ish. <3

Random shot of the beach.

Again.

And again.

In conclusion...haha AUSTIN ROCKS FUCKING SOCKS!

Back to school today.
It was awesome.
My spawn come home Wednesday.
It will be awesome.

Yeah...that is all I have. I will add pictures and shit later. Time to go read two chapters on baking and finish Kitchen Confidential. Or sleep. Whichever happens to happen first.

Ohhh!

Mist of Pandaria released the trailer for the game!
What a completely AWESOME trailer. Now I can't wait to play it. I wasn't all that excited over it...
Big fucking pandas? Wearing armor? Slaying beasts? Ehhhh..Okay, maybe it sounds cool.

I have been avoiding the beta because I want to be surprised but Matt keeps playing it and I can't help but look over. And it really does look fun. I can't wait for a new quest chain. And...okay, maybe big hairy pandas sound like fun. The female Pandaren are pretty adorbz.

Anyways.
AWESOME TRAILER IS AWESOME!

School Stuff

My first two classes are coming to an end. This makes me sad. I really like my instructor and I probably won't have him again. Blah.

The past few days in Foundations 1, we have had to do group recipes. And we didn't get to pick our groups ahah. There is already a huge divide in our class, mostly because of age I think. [A lot of the girls and the one boy in our class are around 18 and fresh out of high school.] I think our instructor sees this and is trying to get us used to working with everyone since we are going to be with the same people for a year, not just the little cliques that have been formed. /shrug. Anyways, rambling.

Wednesday we made fruit salad with vinaigarette.
The vinaigarette was GROSS. SO INCREDIBLY GROSS. Maybe I did something wrong ahah.
But, I plated it pretty cute. In retrospect, I wouldn't have used 5 balls, but 3. And for the love of....PAPAYA is effin' disgusting. So was the pineapple. And those cuts bother me because they aren't perfect but eh...Whaddyagunnado?

Today we made Gazpacho.
I hadn't ever had it before and I went into it thinking I would hate it. Cold Soup? BLECH!
But...ours turned out really tasty. I will post the recipe later, because I really liked it.
ANDDDDDD...I plated it SUPER AWESOME. It was definitely the nicest plated gazpacho. [Conceited much? Maybe.]

Take a look. It's in a book.

Books are awesome.
If you don't think so, we can't be friends. ;]

I have a GINORMOUS collection of books to read and for some reason, I keep adding to the pile. I buy most of them from Half Price Books so I don't feel bad about hoarding it up literary style. I always check the clearance section for books...quite a few of that stack came from Half Price Books clearance for 2 bucks!

I am currently reading The Complete Idiot's Guide to Success as a Chef by Leslie Bilderback
I really enjoy it honestly. I got it because it had a huge list of The Classical Brigade System by Escoffier all in one place that was easy to understand. And then once I started reading it, I ended up loving the author's honesty.

Other books in my stack to read are...
The Nasty Bits by Anthony Bourdain
Under the Table by Katherine Darling
Kitchen Confidential by Anthony Bourdain
Julie & Julia by Julie Powell
My Life in France by Julia Child
The Pastry Chef's Companion by Glenn and Laura Rinsky
The Zombie Survival Guide by Max Brooks [Not cooking! what?!]
The Making of a Chef by Michael Ruhlman
Becoming a Chef by Andrew Dornenburg and Karen Page

Here is another I want to check out..
The Devil in the Kitchen: Sex, Pain, Madness, and the Making of a Great Chef by Marco Pierre White

Razer Lycosa -- I love you.

When it comes to my keyboard [Razer Lycosa] and mouse [Logitech Mx518]...

I am super picky.
Finicky.
Fussy.
Particular.
Whatever word you choose to describe completely anal and whiny.

I started using a Razer Lycosa a while ago and it is the ONLY keyboard I can use happily. I find flaws in every other keyboard I try -- too loud, too clacky, too soft, too hard. I am kind of like Goldilocks noming on porridge and snoozing in bear beds. My BFF Jess got one a long ass time ago and I was a bit jelly. Unfortunately, I was using the Ideazon Burning Crusade Limited Edition Zboard  at the time [which was super clacky!! but I liked it because it was from my favorite expansion in World of Warcraft.] so I couldn't get a new one. I got my first Lycosa from woot.com for like 27.99. So yeah, the Lycosa is definitely not the latest or the best in gaming keyboards, but it is comfortable and perfect. I don't even use gaming features on a keyboard [the Zboard did have some cool ones on the number pad that I got used to.] The keys are so smooth, like velvet. The LED lighted keys are awesome. And it isn't utterly LOUD when you press a button. Anyways, after a few spillage incidents the shift key decided not to work a month or so back. [It quite very well could of been from over usage of the shift key in Diablo 3, but I confess nothing.] I was trying to unstick it, and went HULK SMASH on it or something and snapped the damn button in two. Long story short, I needed a new one so Matt ordered me one and I am once again a happy girl.

Mmmm. Razer Lycosa. [Note my checks (chef pants) at the bottom of the pic. Man I gotta stop living in these things!!]

Look how velvety the keys look!

One room down...

4 more to go! [boy spawn's room is ALMOST done, bathroom still has wallpaper we are working on removing, and the kitchen -- ergh ahah.]

Here is the girl spawn's room. She LOVES purple. Like, completely loves it and wanted her room purple. It is so super girly in there ahah. Zomg.

I kind of wish that flower was a different color. Teal would be awesome!

She put those paint chips on her mirror ahah. I thought it was pretty clever.

Her closet. [So glad the door is closed!]

A vinyl decal we got her from MushuDesigns on Etsy.

And just another shot of the darker purple.

Crazy Conversations Take 2

It is MORE than obvious that I have culinary school on the brain.
Pretty much 24/7.
I even dream about school and cooking for fuck's sake. [I still haven't actually gotten around to COOKING or BAKING but yeah, uh, moving on.]  I watch cooking shows, I buy books about baking or books by Chefs, and I constantly spaz over what random Foodborne Illness I might be contracting by eating whatever random thing I am eating from whatever random place we've gone. I have become pretty effin' boring lately. Shit, last night, I went to bed at like 1am. What? Although, I did lay there and read Success as a Chef for an hour before falling asleep. But, I don't mind. I LOVE that it interests me so much. And I am glad the people close to me aren't like "For the love of, someone shut this bitch up!" [Maybe they are, and just aren't telling me haha]

But anyways, Matt and I went to dinner [Cristina's Mexican Restaurant...mmm @ their flautas.] and like always, we had been talking about random shit. /insert some random World of Warcraft talk here.

A little while later he says to me..."Are you ready to heal me up some dungeons?"
BUT what I heard was "Are you ready to cut me up some onions?"
So I replied, "I can, but it takes too long to cut them."
He looked at me like WTF are you talking about?
Confused as to why he was looking at me like I had suddenly sprouted 4 more eyes, I said, "You said cut you up some onions right?"
He just laughed and said, "No, HEAL ME UP SOME DUNGEONS."
Pretty much all I could reply was..."Oh."

Make your own sprinkles a la The Militant Baker

Jes over at The Militant Baker posted a recipe / how-to on Making Your Own Sprinkles. It looks like so much fun. Someday, I will try it. You know, when my long ass to-do list shortens.

Stupid paint.

/bangsheadonkeyboard.

Stupid corner. Stupid 3M painter's tape. Stupid paint.

That is my current mood. The extremely BRIGHT purple that is a million shades darker than the lavender for the girl spawn's room....decided to run into the lavender in the corner. So now instead of finishing her room tonight like I wanted to, I have to fix a hardcore fuck up. I KNOW I can freehand corners really well, but I doubted myself and decided to tape it off.

YAY!

/grumble.

Moral of the story?

DON'T DOUBT YOURSELF!
